Acadia National Park Animals

Species that used to inhabit the island include the mountain lion (or puma) Coyoteand the gray wolf. It is thought that these predators have been forced to leave the area due to the dramatic decrease in small prey and proximity to human activity.

Mammals of Acadia National Park

The park is home to some 40 different species of mammalian wildlife. Among those are bobcat, coyote, red foxes, mink, long-tailed weasel, muskrat, raccoon, striped skunk, river otter, porcupine, woodchuck, snowshoe hare, squirrels (red, gray and flying), eastern chipmunk, white-tailed deermoose, beaver, and black bear.

Marine Mammals of Acadia

Many species of marine mammal have been observed in the surrounding area and waters including harbor and gray seals, Atlantic harbor porpoise, finback, minke, and humpback whale.
